Our thoughts go out to all those who lost their loved ones and homes.
We were evacuated in the morning on Monday, October 22nd. We packed up everything that was irreplaceable and we drove to Carlsbad and remained there until the mandatory evacuation was lifted. On the way, the sky was black-orange and ash was falling like a light snow. It was so dark, on the freeway all the cars had turned on their headlights. Even in Carlsbad the air was so filled with ash that it burned our throats to breathe. I wasn’t thinking about taking pictures while evacuating, so I only have pictures of us returning home and the dissipating smoke in the sky. Many streets were still closed off by both the police and the military.
